Gown Selection

17th January 2009

We went to D’sire for our actual day’s gown selection. It was quite a breeze for us, we took around 3 hours to settle all the gowns. I think 3 hrs is relatively fast! Considering some pple I know actually took 3 days! LOL! ;)

But then again, selecting gowns is quite a process. There are so many patterns and design available for brides these days, it is not easy to just find ‘that perfect gown’.

D’sire’s bridal package I heard has evolved over time. For my batch, there is a segragation of categories between the normal gowns (known as pret-a-porter; they are nice gowns and are available in size 8, 10 and 12)  and the Vintage gowns (these are more exclusive. Dennes say that there are only 1 gown for each pattern and once we chose that gown, it will be kept away exclusively for us).

My original package allows me to choose 1 ‘normal’ evening gown, 1 ‘normal’ wedding gown, 1 cheong sum; and for Darren 1 MTM suit and 1 off the rack tuxedo suit. Well, as per every weddings, we usually blow our budget. And usually these are dollars and sense that we seldom can foresee.

I’d like to think I have simple taste. Things I like are usually not complicated in nature and once I spot things I like, usually that is it! Before I went into the bridal studio, I had in mind something elegant and classy. I didn’t really fancy the multiple layered skirting or the ruffled style. I guess Empire cut or Princess cut is what I would prefer. Upon trying some gowns in D’sire, I discovered mermaid cut was not really for me too. I don’t have the boobs, the waist and the butt to carry off the hourglass cutting! LOL!

So in the end, I found a wedding gown from the Vintage collection. It was simple, Pricess cut I think, full french laced with intricate beadings!! Darren on the other hand liked one of Dennes creation, it was a simple bodice complimented with a “wow” ruffled skirt. The ruffles were actually tulles forming large roses pattern on the skirt. Darren liked that Gown immensely, but I was in love with the simpler piece. In the end, I decided on the one I liked.

As for the evening gown, I chose a crystal decorated Cheongsum. I tot it classy and pretty daring. Cuz there’s a slit in front of the dress showing my legs. Hmm.. sexy? well, that depends on my leg’s condition on my wedding day! haha! ;)

I did not manage to take any pictures during the selection. Perhaps on my next trip there I could take some yea!

I loved the dresses I chose. but Total damage incurred for selecting 2 gowns from the Vintage collection instead of the Normal collection was – $500 per piece. Total $1000. After thinking it through, I do feel a little ‘upset’ coz the Vintage gown I chose I believe was not the latest design anyway… and a sudden increase of $1000 will definitely strain our budget. But not like we could do anything now since we agreed to pay while at the boutique. Hmmm.. lets see wat happens next..
