Renovation Works

11th September 2008

We engaged the contractor Ho Bee Renovations. We will only be doing a very small scale renovation as the place in general are very well done up and only need a little maintenance works.

So today we started hacking down all the fake walls, fake platforms that we do not require. Well, we liased with Patrick from Ho Bee and he has been a pleasure to work with thus far. We do not feel that he ‘marginalise’ us because ours is a small project. In fact, he seems to understand that we are on a budget after all. :) Its really great that we found this contractor. ;)

We decided to have a ’small’ scale renovations. Which in my opinion turned out to be not so small scale after all. The house in general is pretty well renovated but we gotto tidy up the nitty gritty parts of the house, personalise it a little, change some fittings, and think of our colour scheme etc etc etc.

All this has been part of a really wonderful and exciting process which I am enjoying tremendously. Although its time consuming, can be pretty tiring and you see money flowing out faster than ever in your life. But we sure hope our home turn out as cosy as we planned it would be. ;)

Sometimes I felt that buying an empty house might have been a better option, so that you can just put up whatever you need without feeling the heartache of dumping some nice things away. Then again, our house is generally quite tastefully renovated and we really wish to build up on it rather than hack everything and re-build. So there’s quite a lot of ‘finding the perfect fit’ shopping to do…

After so much running around, the house is finally pretty much done up. Just a little more here and there to touch up. But at the mean time, my dearest hubby and his family has settled down pretty nicely in our new residence. Most things has been place in order with a some little items lying around still.

The whole process has been so exhausting and exciting. We were happily running around all the time, buying stuff and keeping a check list of what to do etc.

So here’s a little breakdown of what we did for our little reno. Its not really “reno” seriously.. more like touching up. LOL.

  • Replace gypsum board wall with concrete ones
  • Hack and Lay tiles for Balcony
  • Changed the wooden door leading to the balcony to an aluminum/glass one.
  • Sealed up an existing doorway with concrete
  • Removed built in platform bed
  • Put up wardrobes
  • Changed toilet and kitchen fittings
  • Changed lighting fixtures
  • Re-varnished the kitchen cabinets
  • MTM shoe cabinet
  • And some miscellaneous repair work.

Yeah.. thats about what we did so far. As far as I can remember.

The going has been great and I think Darren was really great in coordinating with the contractor and communicating what we wanted across. I feel so like a spoilt child, without the need to do much in this sense. :)

So voila, its home sweet home! :)
